Wrap Up

I look forward to seeing you at fall conferences that is a little less than a month away. Hopefully you are able to find a time that works with your schedule. Please let me know if not. After an eventful afternoon yesterday, I was proud of the girls for coming in this morning with the mindset that "today is a new day". We ended the week with a math game afternoon!

We wrapped up Unit 1 in math, reviewed the concepts and even played a little "trashketball". Next week we will go over the graded math quizzes as a class and the girls will be able to work through their missed questions. Graded Unit 1 quizzes will go home on Friday along with their Wordly Wise list 2.

On Monday we will begin our first novel study, James and the Giant Peach.

We will have our first Wordly Wise dress up day on Friday, October 18! Details here.

Wrap Up

I'm so proud of the girls hard work with their chapel. I know they are too!

This week we finished our project that went with the novel The Hundred Dresses. Just like the main character, Wanda, the girls showed off their creativity by designing a dress of her own. Each girl finished off her dress with an inspirational quote.

During social studies, we tested our knowledge of the branches of government! Ask your daughter which branch of government she became in expert in and to tell you all about her Pixton project!

In math we are moving through unit 1! We played roll and round and other fun games to practice rounding big numbers this week.

update

We had a great first 5 day week! We dove into curriculum while also preparing for our chapel next week. The girls are so close to filling up their "compliment jar"!

On Thursday, the girls not participating in band, learned about club opportunities. After the club introduction, they completed a form with their top three choices. We will make sure they get into one of their three choices and clubs will begin on Tuesday, September 24. Clubs will always be on day 4.

Please remember to sign your daughter up for her special week! Details are here!

During Language Arts this week the girls did so well learning the vocabulary words from list 1 in Wordly Wise. Today we took the quiz together to establish that routine.

We also finished our first writing lab where the girls wrote a paragraph describing themselves and included a pixelated picture. They love this project and the younger girls especially love guessing who is who.

We finished a class read aloud of The Hundred Dresses. This a timeless story that shares messages about of bullying and discrimination in a straight forward manner. Children can learn about dealing with tough decisions like standing up for friends, fitting in, and ultimately how to show forgiveness. It is a fabulous story and we had some great class discussions. Next week we will begin a project that goes with the book's message.

During social studies, we began reviewing the three branches of government with a cool info-graphic!

In math we are working through Unit 1 which focuses on numbers up to the millions place value. We had fun using place value discs and place value mats to represent and dissect different numbers.

Update

Thank you for coming to Back-to-School Night this week. It was great to see so many people and talk about our wonderful school year. The partnership between parents and teachers is so important so I am excited to work with you this year.

This post will be brief since we just spent time together on Wednesday. I want to include the special week sign up for you here

Today was a special day because the girls officially became Fourthies. As a grade level, we discussed what it means to be the leaders of the Lower School, they signed a contract, and received their hats. We will keep the hats here so they may use them when they are a carpool helper. They may bring the caps home at the end of the year! It was a fun day.
