Chinese Update from Mrs. Dorian

In math this week, the girls worked hard to measure angles, and define/identify different types of triangles. They put their skills to use during a fun project!

During reading this week, we continued reading about inspiring African Americans in history to celebrate Black History Month. The girls created an accordion book to highlight their top 4 people. These books will come home next week!

We have spent much of this week finalizing our PBL project on ocean animal adaptations. I am really proud of how hard the girls have worked on this. We look forward to showcasing our work at the PBL Culmination on Thursday, February 20 from 10:30 - 11:00 am. In their binders, the girls have an invitation that they created for you on Canva!

As we wrapped up Flora and Ulysses this week, we were inspired by Ulysses' passion for poetry. The girls began working on a Poet-Tree project. The first type of poetry we reviewed was haiku. See if your daughter can tell you what makes a haiku unique and the theme of her haikus.

In math we continued with our geometry unit. We practiced measuring angles with protractors. The highlight of the week for most was completing our first Leaping Numbers Challenge. Ask your daughter for the details!

Update

Please see some important health updates from our amazing lower school nurse!

So much of our time this week was dedicated to the PBL (project-based learning) project. The girls continue to impress me with their creativity. We are exploring the question how are different adaptations critical to survival in specific ocean zones? The girls worked hard on their writing portion of the project this week.

In math this week we began a new unit in math on geometry. We learned about rays, line segments, lines, and points. We reviewed important vocabulary and identified different angles. Next week we will practice our protractor skills.

We are just about finished with our current novel Flora and Ulysses and the girls are getting a kick out of the cynical main character and her best friend squirrel.
