We were back in full swing this week! This week, we launched into our 4th grade PBL (project based learning) project. Before Christmas, the girls studied ocean animals, ocean zones, and animal adaptations. On Wednesday, we zoomed with our first guest expert, Lila Wood's aunt, Dr. Philips. She is a scientist who lives in Oregon and studies zebrafish. We were all amazed by what she shared. Ask your daughter's to share the most interesting thing she learned. Next week, we will zoom with another guest expert. In the classroom, we are researching and making observations. We will complete this project towards the end of February.
Please mark your calendar for our PBL Culmination on Thursday, February 20, from 10:30 - 11:00. We will begin in the Lower School Assembly Room. We invite you to come and see what your daughter has learned!
Unit 4 in math covers number and shape patterns. We will move quickly through this unit and will finish by the end of the month. We continue to
review 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication and long division.
In reading, we started a new novel Flora and Ulysses. It's about a cynical girl named Flora and a new found friend that happens to be a squirrel. We are focusing on using context clues to define vocab throughout the book as well as using evidence from the text to answer comprehension questions.
With many out of town today and this weekend, I decided to send home Friday Folders next Friday instead of today. Be on the lookout!
*After the long weekend, we will switch to Chinese for the remainder of the school year.
*The girls will take their spelling quiz on a second set of homophones on 1/23 and their Wordly Wise List 8 quiz will be Friday, 1/24.
